SAIC Maxus New Cross RV Ultra Hybrid Debuts

SAIC Maxus' New Cross RV Ultra Hybrid Steals the Spotlight at Shanghai Auto Show
Record-Breaking Crowds Flock to Experience the Revolutionary RV
At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, SAIC Maxus' booth drew unprecedented crowds with wait times stretching 20-30 minutes just to enter. Visitors specifically came to witness the debut of the New Cross RV Ultra Hybrid, SAIC Maxus' groundbreaking intelligent RV. One attendee interviewed by TopUsedCars.com mentioned he was actively shopping for a second vehicle to experience alternative lifestyles through RV ownership.

Officially launched on April 26, the New Cross RV Ultra Hybrid starts at 551,800 RMB (approximately $73,573). Between 10AM-2PM daily, the SAIC Maxus booth consistently maintained over 10,000 visitors per time slot, demonstrating its immense popularity.
Game-Changing Diesel Hybrid Technology
Mi Ying, General Manager of SAIC Maxus Sales Center, explained the core design philosophy revolves around "Super Electric" - delivering stable, long-term power without external charging while supporting high-wattage appliances, setting it apart from competitors.

Wang Renjie, Product Strategy Director, noted that unlike regular passenger car users, RV enthusiasts prioritize sustained power availability, wanting "7 days of uninterrupted electricity". The New Cross RV addresses this with:
- World's first DM-D dual-motor hybrid architecture
- 2.0T DHE diesel hybrid engine
- DHT transmission
- 30kWh high-capacity battery
This combination achieves an astonishing 1,100km range. With its 90L fuel tank and 30kWh battery, it can traverse the challenging Sichuan-Tibet route on just two fuel stops. The fast-charging capability (1kWh per minute) enables "30-minute charge for a week's use". Dual 6kW discharge (internal/external) truly delivers "electricity freedom" for RV enthusiasts.
Qi Gaohang, Light Passenger Vehicle & Pickup GM, emphasized the power battery's performance metrics surpass traditional RV batteries by 3-4 times in lifespan, safety, and technical standards, signaling the future replacement of storage batteries in RVs.
The 2.0T diesel hybrid outperforms gasoline hybrids with greater torque, stronger load capacity, and maintains robust performance in high-altitude conditions while being more fuel-efficient. Engineers noted SAIC Maxus' diesel engines achieve gasoline-like NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) levels.

Versatile Chassis Enables Multiple Applications
The DM-D Super Diesel Hybrid chassis has extensive applications. SAIC Maxus simultaneously launched the New Cross Ultra Hybrid Light Passenger Vehicle using the same platform, ushering in a new era for hybrid light commercial vehicles.
This technology platform supports diverse commercial/specialty vehicles:
- Mobile Cafés: 30kWh battery + 6kW discharge supports 10+ hours operation
- Medical Vehicles: 1,100km range ensures continuous equipment operation
- Police Vehicles: Pure EV mode enables 24-hour air conditioning
- Engineering Vehicles: Powers drones and maintenance equipment
The New Cross RV also innovates with a Tri-Mode Driving System:
- Pure EV: Silent urban operation
- Smart Hybrid: Balanced power and economy for highways
- Power Reserve: Guarantees outdoor electricity needs
Additional features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and a smart cockpit with dual 12.3-inch displays supporting CarPlay and Tencent ecosystem.
This Ultra Hybrid Intelligent RV not only solves "range anxiety" but redefines multi-purpose vehicles, transforming light commercial vehicles from mere transportation to all-scenario solutions.
